Are
you celebrating a birthday, anniversary or other special event?
Let us know and we will help you plan for the special day! Let us pre-arrange your Jeep or car rental, boat charters, diving and snorkel trips, other water sports activities or island excursions at the same cost as you would when booking directly. Car and Jeep Rental, Boat Charters and More St Thomas - St John Ferry Service Since St. John has no airport, your vacation begins aboard a 20 minute ferry ride from St. Thomas to St. John. (The taxis at the St. Thomas airport are very familiar with loading up a van full of visitors and transporting them to the ferries.) Ferry service from Red Hook on St. Thomas to Cruz Bay on St. John is very convenient as well as reliable. Boats leave St. Thomas every hour on the hour from 6:30 a.m. to midnight, and they leave every hour from St. John beginning at 6:00 a.m. until 11:00 p.m. Cost is $5 per person plus $2 per suitcase. There is also ferry service from Charlotte Amalie (Downtown St. Thomas) to Red Hook. This service is actually closer to the airport, giving you a shorter taxi ride and longer time on the water. But we have found that this service over the years has not been as reliable as the Red Hook ferries. Be a bit cautious if you are depending on the Downtown ferry to get you to your departure flight on time! Ferry schedule from
Downtown to St. John: 9, 1, and 4 pm The downtown ferry is $11.50 per person plus $2 per suitcase Taxis are readily available at the airport to take you to the ferry; plan on about $13 per person, plus $2 per bag, one way. We can arrange private taxi vans in advance, with rates starting at $75 for four people, and $18 for each additional passenger. Private water taxis are also available for those who arrive later than the last ferry or need to be on St Thomas before the first morning ferry. Check here for ferry schedules. If your flight arrives later than scheduled ferries, or you prefer a private shuttle to St. John, private water shuttles are available. Just let us know if you prefer a private shuttle and we will also arrange a private taxi from the airport to the shuttle’s docking location. St John Car and Jeep Rentals Renting a Jeep or car on St. John is the best way to explore the many beaches, coves and island landmarks around St. John. A four-wheel drive jeep or sport utility vehicle is recommended for your stay. Although we are only 8 miles long, the roads wind along either the shorelines or across the top of the island and pulling over to take in the views(and pictures!) are a favorite pastime of island visitors. With 46 beaches on our tiny 21 square mile island, you will want to take advantage of “personally touring” St. John. St. John Activities, Day Boat Charters, Private Charters, and Day Trips to BVI Let us know what you want to do, and we’ll take care of the arrangements at no additional cost to you. Almost two thirds of St. John is National Park. We are blessed with dozens and dozens of protected beaches. Most rental homes on St. John are close to the prime beaches that are a part of the Park and thus closed for development, and all of our homes have fabulous ocean views. Some homes have beach access by taking a short hike, but as a rule, plan on driving 12 to 20 minutes to one of our many beaches, depending on your villa location and how far off the beaten track you'd like to be. With other US Virgin Islands in view such as St. Thomas, Lovango, Mingo as well as most of the British Virgin Islands, day trips and excursions can be a simple public ferry ride, or private charter with captain; or charter your own boat and explore the islands that are within easy reach of St. John. Let us know your interests and book your excursions for you at no additional charge! Kayak, Snorkeling and Eco Tours on St. John If you want to be “up close and personal” to St. John’s shoreline and pristine underwater scenes, kayak and dinghies are available for rent for half or full days. There are also small companies that lead diving, kayak and snorkeling tours on both sides of the island. This is an exceptional value to families and those who want to learn more about our waters and history. Windsurfing
is also available here, and Snuba
is also a great way to see our underwater world without formal dive training. |
